As a life-long amateur athlete with a degree in Recreational, Sports Leadership and Tourism Management, backed up by a penchant for hard work plus real-world experience, I am poised to make an immediate contribution to an organization. By virtue of my non-traditional education route,
I bring more to the table than a typical recent college graduate.
Because I could not imagine a time when sports and recreation would not be an integral part of my life, I decided to make it my major. Courses in program planning, facilities and human resource management, marketing, finance/budgeting, risk management, liability, and safety taught me essential components of sports/recreation management from a theoretical point of view. This “book learning” is backed up by hands-on experience at all levels.
I know sports and recreation inside and out. From my earliest days, I have been a rec-league team participant (baseball, basketball, soccer). From middle school on I played classic (travel) soccer as well as varsity high school and community college soccer. Golf, gym workouts, and basketball have been my adult sports outlets. Since 2013, I have organized, obtained sponsors for, coached, and played on the team that regularly wins or places second in the Wrightsville Beach Summer League Championship. Other sports management experience, which is detailed on my enclosed résumé, educated me on the inner workings of recreation management.
Self-supporting since high school graduation, I juggled school and a variety of recreation and hospitality-related jobs to earn my Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees over a ten-year span. I have been with the same restaurant employer for over five years and was recently promoted to manager. My efficiency, dependability, and customer service skills, have earned me increasing pay, hours, benefits, respect, and responsibilities. It is time, however, to move beyond that comfortable familiarity and begin a career in my chosen field.
I took the long route in settling on my career focus – and it is all the more important to me for the effort. Along the way, I picked up the ability to interact with all types of individuals; inside experience as a staff member, player, official, and coach; and a BA degree to tie it all together.
I would like to put my extensive background in sports, recreation, and business to good use. If you are looking for an individual with passion for sports/recreation; knowledge of logistics and budgeting; and a proven track record of diligence and hard work in the field (both literally and figuratively), please contact me for an interview. ###
